How we make money, stated plainly.
The Hydroponist is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we have researched thoroughly. Your trust matters to us. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
What that means in practice
- Some outbound product links are affiliate links, including links to Amazon and to hydroponics retailers.
- If you click one and buy something, we receive a small percentage of the sale. The price you pay is exactly the same.
- We are a participant in affiliate programmes designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to retailer products.
What it does not mean
- We are not paid to recommend specific products. No brand pays us for placement or a favourable write-up.
- Commission does not decide rankings. Where we recommend a cheaper option, or tell you to build something instead of buying it, that is the recommendation regardless of what it earns.
- We do not claim tests we have not run. Where a guide is based on specifications and grower consensus rather than our own hands-on use, we say so on the page.
Our own products
We also sell our own premium build plans, guides and starter kits. Those are clearly marked as ours. Everything essential on this site is, and will remain, free.
